Tamarindo/Playa Grande
|
- Beach/surf/party town. Accommodations run the gamut. Active nightlife and plenty to do- biking, four-wheeling, horseback, scuba diving, sportfishing, golf. Playa Grande is known for one of the primary nesting sites of the leatherback sea turtles. Also Tamarindo has beautiful sunsets.

Manuel Antonio/Quepos
|
- Beach town. Known for it's spectacular views, beautiful beaches, National Park and abundance of wildlife like the white-faced and squirrel monkeys among others. Accommodations can run from hostel like prices to over $1000. a night. Not really known as a 'party' town after dark. Quepos is known for it's sportsfishing.

La Fortuna/Arenal

- Perhaps the number 1 destination in Costa Rica. La Fortuna has everything but a beach- Arenal Volcano, Lake Arenal, tons of outdoor activities such as, canyoning, canopy tours, white water rafting, hot springs, biking, hiking etc. Accommodations run from $3.00 a night to almost $1000. There is somewhat of a nightlife here.

Puerto Viejo

- Beach/surf/party town with a distinct Caribbean flair. Known for it's beautiful beaches (make sure to check out Punta Uva), cultural tours with the nearby Bribri Indians, Finca La Isla Botanical Gardens, wildlife refuges such as the Jaguar Rescue Center, good food and plenty of accommodations in all price ranges. But mostly, Puerto Viejo is a surf town.

Nicoya Peninsula Malpais/Montezuma

- Malpais is a beach/surf/party town and the Pacific equivalent to Puerto Viejo. Surfing is the major draw but you can hike, horseback, atv there as well. Plenty of 'beach' and plenty of accommodations. Montezuma is a beach town, known for it's stunning scenery, waterfalls and laid back attitude. Great place to chill.

Monteverde

- Costa Rica's most internationally recognized ecotourism destination and a nature lovers paradise. Nature hikes, unbelievable flora and fauna, bird watching, coffee tours, cheese factory, night hikes that feature creepy-crawlies and other whatsamacallits and some of the BEST canopy tours in Costa Rica. Plenty of accommodations and eateries. Not much of a nightlife.

Osa Peninsula/Drake Bay/Golfito

- Beaches, forests, camping, hiking, exploring, wildlife, solitude, nature lodges and of course Corcovado National Park are the main draws to the Osa Peninsula. This is the place for the TRUE explorer. The Osa is a destination in and of itself and you need TIME here.
